The location of our Estate is not coincidental; nestled at the foot of the Eastern Rhodope Mountains, the sources here have proved for over 5,000 years that the Thracians, Romans, and Bulgarians who once inhabited these lands were involved in viticulture and winemaking. It is an honor for us to continue this ancient tradition.
Today, our wines tell a story, and with every uncorked bottle, no matter where you are in the world, you will be transported back to this heavenly spot.

OUR HISTORY
Katarzyna Estate is our fulfilled dream that marks the beginning of a new story. It all started in 2003 when Christoph Trilinski happened upon the lands of Mezzek village and instantly fell in love with the area. He decided to fulfill one of his biggest dreams – to build a winery like a classic French château. After research of the soil characteristics, climate, altitude, and terrain, it became evident that the region was exceptionally favorable for grape cultivation. Over the next three years, the first vineyards were planted.
Since the inaugural harvest in 2006, the winery’s philosophy has been that success begins with the vines. Exceptional wines become possible through careful vineyard management and, of course, the team’s passion. With each subsequent harvest, the aim is to unveil the uniqueness of the terroir and create wines that exude elegance, refinement, and a delicate balance between fruit, acidity, oak, and tannins, wines that possess their own distinctive character.

It’s intriguing that the winery is situated on the same latitude as some of the world’s most famous wine regions. The Estate was established in the former border zone that once separated Bulgaria from Greece in the southeastern part of the country, surrounded by pristine nature untouched by human activity for decades. We cultivate 7500 hectares of our own vineyards and endeavor to make the most of the terroir’s richness.
Making wine is a passion, love, and calling, but it’s also a year-round labor involving numerous processes. Each harvest presents us with different challenges that the head winemakers, Svilen and Ivan Kissiovi, along with the team, must manage. DISCOVER OUR WORLD
Katarzyna Estate is located in one of the southernmost points of Bulgaria. The area is extremely fertile for growing vines and is located at the same latitude as some of the most famous wine regions in Europe. The cellar is positioned 2 km from the border with Greece, at the foot of the Eastern Rhodopes. The area is hillocky, very picturesque and still delightfully wild. The interesting architecture divides the building into three levels, allowing the gravity transport of grapes and wine from level to level. The gravity principle includes several sorting lines and manual sorting of the grapes before entering the fermenters, thus only the best quality grapes remain for processing. The winery is equipped with the highest level of technological equipment necessary for modern wine production and is the largest Bulgarian winery using the micro-vinification method.

We believe that the vineyards are where the wine is made, and in the cellar we only take care of it with minimal intervention, so as to match the optimal ripeness of our grapes and achieve harmony, balance and tenderness in the wines.
